About Memphis Gay Basketball

General Info

Memphis Gay Basketball, founded by Herschel Stokes, started its first full season in the spring of 2004. The season started with three teams playing a ten-week schedule. We are expecting to increase the number of teams playing with each season.

Memphis Gay Basketball League will focus on providing an opportunity for recreational basketball in the Memphis GLBT community. While we are a gay basketball league by name, everyone is welcome to join. It is the goal of Memphis Gay Basketball League to provide a healthful setting for players to make new friends and develop their skills.

Team Selection

The coaches choose our teams every year through a draft system of registered players. This helps create a balanced competition as well as new friendships.

The annual Draft Party occurs in August, where coaches select their respective teams that compete against each other.

Seasons

Our spring season runs February to May, and our summer season is August to October.

Basketball League Schedules

Schedules will be available for pickup at mandatory managers meetings. Information relating to how the league will be administered, upcoming events, gym maintenance reports, and rule changes are discussed at the meeting. In the event the manager of the team cannot attend he/she is required to send a representative of the team to the meeting. Basketball games usually begin at 6:00 p.m.
